Athletes, Gold Medals & UFOs: Expert Warns Aliens Might Invade London Olympics

Regal London is the host of the 2012 Olympic Games, and among high security concerns of a terrorist attack, one former member of the UK's Minster of Defense believes we should also be worried about an alien invasion.

Military and UFO expert Nick Pope claims that large international events such as the Olympiad would be a prime opportunity for intelligent life forms traveling from faraway galaxies to make their presence known on Earth.

"With the summer of mass events we are all on high alert for terrorism. But we must also cast our eyes further afield and be prepared for even the most seemingly unfathomable," Pope cautioned. His time at the UK's Ministry of Defense included investigative work on reported UFO sightings in Great Britain during the years from 1991 through 1994. Initially a skeptic, Pope now says he is a firm believer in the existence of intelligent life forms on other planets, and that the governments of the world need to have a plan of action on the table, should they decide to pay Earth a visit, be it peaceful or hostile.

He also claims that the UK government has taken the possibility into very real consideration and have made contingency plans for a "worse case scenario"...a full scale alien invasion. He states that many governments of the world believe alien intelligence has been monitoring terrestrial television and radio broadcasts for several decades, but would not elaborate on a reason for the monitoring.

Pope's role in the UK government has been described as "working for the UK X Files", referencing the hit television show starring David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson about conspiracy theories and paranormal and alien activity.  He has published several non-fiction bestsellers about extraterrestrials, including Open Skies, Closed Minds.

Big Liz? London's Famed Clock To Be Renamed after Queen Elizabeth

Parliamentary officials in Great Britain have signed on for a petition to re-name London's famous clock Big Ben in honor of Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee this year.

UK Prime Minister David Cameron, as well as Nick Clegg and Ed Miliband are among senior figures from all political parties who have backed the proposal to rename the clock the Elizabeth Tower. A total of 331 MPs have now signed up to the campaign.

The campaign is similar to an honor bestowed upon beloved Queen Victoria, who is the only other monarch to have celebrated a Diamond Jubilee, which marks 60 years of rule.

Big Ben is the nickname for the Clock Tower at the north end of the Palace of Westminster on the River Thames in the heart of London. Long the very symbol of the city of London as well as the entire UK, the tower was constructed in 1858, after most of the former parliament building was destroyed in a fire.

The UK Parliament's governing body, the House of Commons, is expected to meed by the end of June to officially adopt the name change for the world-famous tower. It is anticipated that the Clock Tower will be renamed the Elizabeth Tower, but it is expected to still be known colloquially by its nickname, Big Ben.

Fit for a Queen: Ugly Eel from Great Lakes to Be Baked in Pie for Queen's Jubilee

"Okay, I'm not very photogenic. But the Queen wants to eat me!"
A rather hideously ugly creature from the Great Lakes has received a Royal Command Performance from Queen Elizabeth II.

The creature, known as a sea lamprey, is actually quite the menace around the Great Lakes region of the United States and Canada, but is considered something of a delicacy in the UK, where icky cuisine is the norm. The parasitic lamprey was once common in Great Britain, but is now on the endangered species list and is protected.

The city of Gloucester, which has given the pie as a gift to the monarch since the Middle Ages, made a request for the lamprey to the Great Lakes Fishery Commission, which was only too happy to supply them with a case of the ugly beasts. The commission has already sent two pounds of the slimy eel taken from Lake Huron to the UK, where they will be baked into the archaic lamprey pie dish to help Queen Elizabeth celebrate her Diamond Jubilee, which will mark the 60th year of her monarchy.

Sarrah Maccey of the Gloucester Folk Museum says that she and a royally approved chef will bake the pie, and she is researching ancient local recipes. One traditional 15th-Century recipe calls for the lamprey to be cooked in a sauce of red wine, vinegar, cinnamon and its own blood, then baked in a thick, handmade crust. Yum!

The Queen is a real trooper of course, and will undoubtedly consume the "pie" with a pleasant smile on her face!

The Hull Chainsaw Incident: Video of Chainsaw Bar Fight Released

Shocking surveillance footage of a bizarre attack by a chainsaw wielding man at a bar in the United Kingdom has been released.

The footage, taped last year at the The Endyke Pub in Hull, England, shows 24-year-old Dean Dinnen, who admits to being drunk and on drugs at the time, casually entering the pub with a chainsaw after the establishment had told him he was not allowed to smoke inside of the restaurant. This apparently angered Dinnen so much that he retrieved a chainsaw and returned to search for the gentleman that had tossed him out of the club for smoking.

The disturbing video shows Dinnen brandishing the dangerous weapon at several patrons as he rips open the arm of Adrian Pryor, 32, before realizing that Pryor was not the man who threw him out of the pub. Patrons can be seen scrambling for safety during the attack, with others arming themselves with bar-stools and pool cues to fight off the crazed attacker. Eventually, Dinnen decides to leave the pub, but can be seen being chased down by an angry mob throwing chairs and kegs at the man, intent on bringing the lunatic to justice.

Dinnen pleaded guilty to several charges including causing grievous bodily harm, and was sentenced to three years in prison for the vicious attack.

The Big Chill: Forecasters Warn of Siberia-Like Winter for Great Britain & Europe

Meteorologists are warning residents of the UK and Europe that this may be the nastiest and coldest winter yet, even worse than the devastating Deep Freeze of last winter, when satellite photographs showed the entire island of Great Britain and a large part of Ireland covered in snow!

Winter weather is expected to arrive with a vengeance with temperatures dipping well below zero within the next two weeks. Forecasters are warning residents that heavy snow may fall far earlier in the season than last year, when early November snow storms and bone-chilling temperatures created travel chaos throughout Britian and Northern Europe.

The stark warning came as the Meteorological Agency told various governmental agencies to prepare now for extreme weather events and to take extra steps to protect public transport and people's lives. Last year, road crews ran out of salt and grit used to clear snow and ice early in the season due to the heavy snow, creating a travel nightmare across most of Great Britain and Ireland.

Residents are being warned to stock up on extra supplies of food and bottled water as well as extra fuel and light sources due to the possibility of power failures and black-outs. Residents are also being urged to check-in frequently with elderly neighbors during extreme cold snaps.

The Met Office UK said: "Our excess winter mortality, of an average 25,000 extra deaths in winter compared to other months of the year - 80 per cent thought to be due to the cold - is very poor compared to other countries in Europe. The aim of the cold weather alerts is to reduce winter mortality by allowing action to be taken, helping people and patients reduce the risks of cold weather."
