The Wyoming House of Representatives in Cheyenne has passed a "Doomsday" bill that would give the Western state a heads-up in the event of a cataclysm that could possibly collapse the US government and economy.
House Bill 85 passed on first reading by a voice vote. It would create a state-run government continuity task force, which would study and prepare Wyoming for potential catastrophes, from disruptions in food, fuel and energy supplies to a complete meltdown of the federal government.
The bill would also give the state the power to print its own currency in the event of a complete economic collapse. House members approved an amendment on Friday by state Rep. Kermit Brown, R-Laramie, to have the task force also examine the extreme conditions under which the state would need to implement its own military draft, raise a standing army, and acquire strike aircraft and an aircraft carrier, although Wyoming is completely land-locked.
