A bumbling Arizona thief let his sweet tooth get the best of him after robbing a local store, so much so that he left a trail of empty candy wrappers for the police to follow directly to his door.
Police in Eloy, Arizona, say that Jose Lopez, Jr. forced his way into a shop and made away with a safe containing cash and jewelry as well as some chocolate candy bars that were on display. The police had to do a little footwork, but eventually they discovered a trail of discarded candy wrappers strewn about, which handily led them to Lopez' front door, less than a quarter of a mile from the crime scene! Authorities also identified Lopez' footprint from the scene of another robbery.
Lopez, dubbed "The Hansel & Gretel Bandit", has now been arrested for third degree burglary, theft, possession of marijuana, and had an outstanding warrant for violating probation. He is being held in the Pinal County Jail. The stash of more than $2000 as well as the stolen jewelry have been returned to their rightful owners.
