The Secret History: Remains of Young Jamestown Settlement Girl Had Been Cannibalized

Here's something you probably never read in any of your history books in school: Forensic scientists examining the remains of a teenaged girl discovered buried in the Jamestown settlement in Virginia have determined that her remains had been cannibalized!

The scientists from the Smithsonian Institute uncovered gruesome clues that the 14-year-old girl had been hacked at in much the same way a butcher would hack at the remains of a cow or pig. Many of the bones on her body had the unmistakable markings of being cut upon by a knife or axe.

Anthropologists and historians believe that the girl could have died during the famine of the winter of 1609 known as "The Starving Time" , an infamously harsh winter season that left only 60 of the 500 original colonists alive. Rumors of cannibalism during the Starving Time have existed over the centuries, but now the forensic scientists have offered conclusive proof that the colonists probably turned to eating human flesh in order to survive out of desperation.

The scientists believe that the girl died of natural causes, perhaps of starvation and/or disease, and that the cut marks upon her body were rendered postmortem.  The bones, the reconstruction of her head and the story were presented Wednesday at an event at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History. The remains will now be displayed at the Archaearium, the museum at the Jamestown fort archaeological site in Virginia, starting this weekend. A sign at the room’s entrance warns tourists that human remains will be on view. There will be no depictions of bodies being butchered, cooked or consumed.

Three suspected cannibals have been arrested by Brazilian police on suspicion of having murdered and eaten at least two women who they may have turned into pastries, which they in turn gave to unsuspecting neighbors to eat. 

Jorge Beltrao Negromonte and Elizabeth Pires da Silveira, both 51, and Bruna da Silva of Guaranhuns, Brazil, have been arrested, charged with luring young women into their home with job offers to be a live-in nanny, killing them and then consuming their flesh in what they called a "purification ceremony". It is also alleged that they used the flesh of their victims to make stuffed-meat pastries known as empanadas, which they sold to neighbors, schools as well as to hospitals. 

Police discovered two bodies in the garden of the house of the trio, which authorities believe may be the bodies of Alexandra Falcao, 20 and Gisele da Silva, 30, both of whom disappeared recently. The cannibalistic trio confessed that their intentions were to kill and consume at least three women a year to continue the "purification" process. 

Police also discovered a gruesome "diary" of sorts in the house of horrors written by Negromante, which detailed the trio's heinously vile plans. 

 

 

 

I Eat Cannibals: Dutch Game Show Contestants Turn Cannibal for €€€

"I don't have to eat your liver with a nice Chianti, but it does bring out the flavor."

Contestants on a Dutch game show are taking a cue from Silence of the Lamb baddie Hannibal Lecter by turning themselves into cannibals for the love of money!

Two male contestants on the game show Proefkonijnen (Guinea Pig) had surgery to remove muscle and tissue from their buttocks and abdomen so that the samples could be fried up and served to the other contestant. Dennis Storm and Valerio Zeno both ate the disgusting piece of meat in front of a live audience for an opportunity to win big bucks. Neither contestant would say how the others' fleshy hor d'oeuvres  tasted, which they ate without any sort of seasoning or condiment! The nauseating episode of the show will air soon in the Netherlands.


Lawyers for the show insist that there was nothing illegal about the outrageous stunt as cannibalism is not expressly against the law, although the television producers and presenter could run into legal difficulties. The show also insists that there is no danger in consuming human meat, as long as it is properly cooked.
