Prêt-à-Porter: Parisienne Women Can Now LEGALLY Wear Pants

It might have come a century too late, but finally the women of fashion forward Paris can legally wear pants!

It seems an antiquated law written during the time of the French Revolution in the late 1700s that forbade the women of  Paris to wear pants was left in the books. The law was eventually amended in 1892 and again 1909...but that was only to make it legal for woman to wear trousers if they were "holding the handlebars of a bicycle or the reigns of a horse".

Apparently, trailblazers such as iconic French fashion designer Coco Chanel and screen goddess Marlene Dietrich (who lived in an apartment on Avenue Montaigne in Paris until her death in 1992) were even more daring for the age in which they lived, considering their penchant for men's trousers and outfits, which was technically illegal!

The obscure and outdated law was officially repealed on Friday by Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, the French minister of women's rights. "This law is incompatible with the principles of equality between men and women which is laid out in the Constitution and in France's European commitments,"  Vallaud-Belkacem said in an official statement.

Now the women of Paris can wear their trousers...out and proud!

Excavators in Germany have uncovered what is believed to be the world's oldest handbag, National Geographic reveals!

The amazing discovery—believed to be the first of its kind anywhere in the world—was found in a grave site at an ancient burial ground on a 250-acre site being excavated outside of Leipzig, Germany. The item—thought to be a ceremonial handbag used to carry precious cargo of the time—is elaborately decorated with over 100 canine teeth and is at least 4500-years-old, dating from the time of the Stone Age.

Over the millennium, the leather and fabric that the purse was fashioned from has rotted away, leaving only the dog teeth as evidence of its former glory. While a handbag made of canine teeth is an extremely rare find, canine teeth used for ceremonial decorations is actually a common theme among Stone and Bronze Age artifacts.

In fact, so many teeth from dogs have been excavated from graves around the region that it suggests dogs were as important as livestock to Stone Age man and they have been man's best friend since pre-historic times.

We know that the handbag would look right at home on the arms of Wilma Flintstone and Betty Rubble!

Famed Fashion Icon Vidal Sassoon Dead at 84

Famed hairstylist and fashion icon Vidal Sassoon has passed away at his Mulholland Drive home in Beverly Hills, California. He was 84-years-old and had been battling an undisclosed illness, believed to be leukemia, since 2009. He died with family and close friends by his side.

The name Sassoon became forever associated with hair care when the English-born stylist opened his first hair salon in London in 1954. Along with fashion designers Mary Quant and André Courrèges, Sassoon helped created the "Mod"/Carnaby Street look of the mid-1960s, complete with Quant's hugely-popular mini-skirt designs, Courrèges' knee-high go-go boots and Sassoon's signature short, pixie-like bob hairstyle, made famous by English supermodel Twiggy and actress Mia Farrow.

Sassoon's chain of hair salons were highly successful, opening in cosmopolitan world capitals and drawing rich and famous clientele from around the globe. Famous clients would pay hefty fees to fly Sassoon in just to do their hair for an evening. His line of hair care products sold in the millions.

Sassoon was awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) by Queen Elizabeth in 2009.

A film about his life, Vidal Sassoon: The Movie, was released in 2010. He is survived by his fourth wife Rhonda, two sons, Elan and David,  and daughter Eden. Daughter Catya died of a drug-induced heart attack in 2002.

Old, scrawny, ugly and grey-haired fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld, famous for running off at the mouth, has let it rip once again, calling singing superstar Adele "fat" and Russian men "ugly".

The 2000 78-year-old designer has always been known for his petulant and often controversial outbursts and was his usual demon-possessed self in an interview for European paper The Metro. In the interview, he gives Rolling in the Deep songbird Adele a back-handed compliment by saying, ""The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice."

He also insists that US president Barack Obama only occupies the White House because of his wife, Michelle. "My favorite thing about Mrs Obama was when she was asked if her skirt was not too tight and she answered, 'Why, you don't like my big black ass?'"

He insulted millions of Russian men by proclaiming "If I was a woman in Russia I would be a lesbian, as the men are very ugly." He also went on to say that both Greeks and Italians have "really disgusting habits" when quizzed about his thoughts concerning the current European economic crisis.

In a touch of irony possibly lost on the fashionista,  the  pony-tail wearing and fan-carrying Lagerfeld was once a bit of a porker himself, and lost a considerable amount of weight after going on an extreme "diet" (aka gastric bypass surgery) in 2001.

She posed for her first Vogue magazine cover at the age of 15 in 1947 and she is still doing her little turn on the catwalk of the world's fashion capitals sixty-four years later! The original supermodel Carmen Dell'Orefice has returned to the world of high fashion at a ravishingly beautiful 80-years-old.

The silver-haired beauty has worked with some of the world's most important photographers over the years and once posed for revered Spanish artist Salvador Dali. She was also once the official face of the House of Coco Chanel.  Now, the sexy octogenarian has been forced to return to the modeling world after seeing her life's savings stolen away by her one-time investor, Wall Street villain Bernie Madoff, who swindled away billions of dollars of hard-earned money from his trusting clients. Madoff was close friends with Dell'Orefice and her former longtime partner Norman Levy, until the shocking scandal came to light. Facing eviction from her Manhattan apartment, she opted to go back to the glittering world of fashion to earn some much-needed cash.

Still. she is optimistic about the future. The twice-married stunner doesn't count out the possibility of finding love once again. "There's always a boyfriend... Whatever else I have to give up on, I won't give up on love."
