O-R-E-O: World's Favorite Cookie Celebrates 100th Birthday

Break out the Cookies and Milk...the Oreo Cookie celebrates its 100th birthday!

Nabisco sold its very first yummy Oreo in 1912. The simple recipe required a delicious vanilla filling sandwiched between two chocolate wafers. It was an immediate success after its introduction and has gone on to become the bestselling cookie in the world. Over 320 billion Oreos have been gobbled up over the past one hundred years.

Nabisco plans to honor the cookie with a month-long birthday celebration featuring an international publicity campaign across media new and old, centered on a birthday-party theme and complete with special events and will include a limited-edition Birthday Cake Oreo. "What we’ve really set out to do is something authentic for the brand, true to its roots, that is fresh for today," an executive with the company tells the New York Times.

So, break out a glass of milk and a stack of Oreos and help celebrate. To help get you into the festive spirit, watch this classic 1980s Oreo commercial, featuring a very young Urkel...I mean Jaleel White (who will be shaking his groove thing on the upcoming season of Dancing with the Stars.)
