Rapper Heavy D Dies at the Age of 44

Heavy D at the BET Hip Hop Awards Last Month
90s rapper Heavy D from the group Heavy D & The Boyz  has died after collapsing in his Beverly Hills, California, home. The 44-year-old singer, who was born Dwight Arrington Myers, had returned to his home after running some errands when he collapsed after climbing a flight of stairs, witnesses at the scene say.

A police report states that an acquaintance of Heavy D found the singer leaning against the railing of a stairwell, clearly in distress. An ambulance was called to the home and the rap star was rushed to a local hospital. The acquaintance states that Myers was struggling to breathe during the ambulance ride.

A police statement released reads "There are no obvious signs of foul play, and at this time his death is believed to be medically related."

Heavy D. had great success in the early-90s with the Number One single "Now That We Found Love" with the group Heavy D & The Boyz. He also took part in the Michael Jackson tribute concert "Forever Michael" staged last month in Cardiff, Wales, where he performed with Jackson's sister La Toya.
