See the Pyramids of Old: Egypt Closes Pyramids Amid 11/11/11 Rumors

The Egyptian government has temporarily closed public access to the Pyramid of Giza outside of Cairo, as rumors circulate among locals and on the Internet of rituals being performed.

Mustafa Amin, head of the Egyptian antiquities authority, said that the pyramid of Khufu, also known as Cheops, would be closed on Friday, 11/11/11, for what he deemed "necessary maintenance." The closure comes after rumors spread throughout the area that "Masonic" rituals were to be performed at the site to honor the date 11/11/11.

Rumors that the date will bring about "life-changing global events" have been rife on the Internet for years. The date supposedly has significance within the deeply mysterious Freemasons group, with theories that the secret society "rules the world" from behind the scenes, creating events on a global scale. The date precedes the much-discussed Mayan calendar end date of 12/21/12.

Without a doubt, we will see quite a few high profile public places closed on that date as well...
